Brian Greene, a pioneer of string theory, claims scientists must tell two tales for a given theory: one mathematical and one physical.
Philosophical Engineering Design Point:
The “tale of two tales,” as Greene puts it, between the mathematical story of “how the universe evolves” and the physical story, “which translates the abstract mathematics into experiential language”, is the crux of physics. Unifying these two stories of language and physicality gives a unique perspective into the nature of reality for the physicist.
In forming your own metaphysical interpretation of the world, there seems to be a physical or experiential reality and a linguistic reflection of that reality–the story. For example, a Facebook post about an event (language) is not equivalent to the event itself (physical).
Changing the stories we tell ourselves changes how we remember the events-it changes our own reality. We have the power to alter our reality.
Saying you rock climbed on Facebook isn’t the same as actually doing it!
